Budget Documents

  • Federal Budget Publications (Government Printing Office)
    Site includes Federal Budget Publications and Economic Report of the President for FY1998, FY1997 and FY1996.  User may a) search documents on-line; b) download individual sections; c) download over 200 tables as spreadsheets; or d) direct download full documents.
  • Economic Report of the President (Council of Economic Advisors). This annual report is written by the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. It overviews the nation’s economic progress using text and extensive data appendices. The report is transmitted to Congress no later than ten days after the submission of the Budget of the United States Government. User may a) search reports on-line (1996-present); b) download over 200 tables as spreadsheets; c) download full copies of official reports in pdf (1995-present); d) direct download full copies of report (1947 forward).

Executive Actions

  • Executive Orders (National Archives & Records Administration). Executive orders are official documents, numbered consecutively, through which the President of the United States manages the operations of the Federal Government. All executive orders appear in the Federal Register, but this site provides Executive Order Disposition Tables from January 8, 1937-present. An annual compilation of signed Presidential documents is found in Title 3 of the CFR (see below).
  • Search Executive Orders (White House Virtual Library). Users may search  by Executive Order Number or by term/phrase.
  • Federal Register (Government Printing Office). The Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents. Site allows searching and browsing of FR from 1994-present. GPO plans to digitize all prior issues back to 1936 (to be completed in 2016).
  • Regulations.gov is a comprehensive source for all regulations (or rulemakings) issued by U.S. government agencies. This site includes: a) all Federal regulations that are open for public comment (i.e., proposed rules) and closed for comment (i.e., final rules) as published in the Federal Register; b) many Federal agency notices published in the Federal Register; c) additional supporting materials, public comments, and Federal agency guidance and adjudications. The site allows users to comments through the web site on those documents that are open for public comment.
  • Code of Federal Regulations (National Archives & Records Administration). The CFR is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government. It is divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to Federal regulation. Each volume of the CFR is updated once each calendar year and is issued on a quarterly basis. Site allows browsing and searching from 1996 to present.
  • Electronic Code of Federal Regulations e-CFR is a currently updated version of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). It is not an official legal edition of the CFR. The e-CFR is an editorial compilation of CFR material and Federal Register amendments produced by the National Archives and Records Administration’s Office of the Federal Register (OFR) and the Government Printing Office. The OFR updates the material in the e-CFR on a daily basis

Federal Publications

  • United States Government Printing Office (GPO) There are approximately a quarter of a million titles available to the public via the Internet on the GPO Access Web site. Through GPO’s partner Web sites, an additional half a million titles are accessible to the public. The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications is the finding tool for federal publications that includes descriptive records for historical and current publications and provides direct links to those that are available online. Users can search by authoring agency, title, subject, and general key word, or click on “Advanced Search” for more options. The catalog offers you the option to find a nearby Federal Depository Library that has a particular publication or that can provide expert assistance in finding and using related U.S. government information.
  • National Technical Information Service (NTIS). Containing over 2.0 million bibliographic records, the NTIS Database is the preeminent resource for accessing the latest research sponsored by the United States and select foreign governments. The Database represents billions of dollars in research. Contents include research reports, computer products, software, video cassettes, audio cassettes and more. Most records include abstracts. The complete electronic file dates back to 1964. On average, NTIS has added over 60,000 new records per year to the Database over the past ten years. Site allows direct ordering of 130,000 most recent acquisitions. The complete NTIS database is available in more comprehensive format through commercial providers. A free search guide includes a detailed break-down of the coding system used for health care publications, which constitute 6.5% of NTIS holdings.
